proper pastries!

not from the supermarket..

and this is where i bought them, it's just in the neighbourhood. look past the reflections to see the pastries...

the moment i stepped out of the house! it belongs to my neighbour downstairs i think, it slipped back down and through the door after coming up to pose for a few shots.

shepherd's pie (of sorts)

i know, it looks more like mashed potato pie.. this is what happens when you don't measure portions and just guess.

anyway this dates all the way back to nanyang home econs days! when i first formed the impression that this was an easy dish to make. i remember now though that we used the frozen veg mix then...

my roommate is, by the way, quite amused by the way i keep taking photos of food. i've told her that it's a singaporean thing...

yay for tackiness

was much cheered to find this extremely tacky fairground set up in a public park yesterday... in the heart of sophisticated, cold milan. well it might just be for the tourists?

weekends are for being lazier than usual...

and eating better than usual..

saturday's breakfast!
the jam tarts are 0.99euro for 6 at the supermarket. how great is that? they have chocolate ones too...

today's dinner/lunch (because it's too much trouble to cook twice in a day!)
and my first time eating rice in italy.. it's minestrone rice steamed in a bowl.. the rice grains are strangely big.

i think i need to eat more greens.. there's a lot of red.

if people would just keep cats instead...

The number of times i've looked down just in time...

I have a nasty feeling i'm not always going to be this lucky.

and a more recent lunch/dinner

Pre-cubed pancetta is really convenient...

delayed report: airplane food..

yes there was inflight entertainment.. but the screen was small. and anyway i had 3 hrs of transit time to while away.. and plenty more time here. :]

so. reason #1 to fly emirates: dessert.

large things squatting in the streets

what huge recycling bins...

sandro botticelli

Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi, better known as Sandro Botticelli or Il Botticello ("The Little Barrel") was an Italian painter of the Florentine school during the Early Renaissance (Quattrocento).
-Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Most (not all, i realised today after more walking around) streets in Milan are named after people.

I live on Via Botticelli now, he lies between Luigi Mangiagalli (doctor, former mayor) and Moretto da Brescia (another painter, real name Alessandro Bonvicino) and is crossed by, among others, Guido Reni (yes another painter..).

exploring milan. unintentionally.

since today was supposed to be a purposeful getting-things-done day.

well i did manage to enrol at the university...

and i managed to stumble across the supermarket (my roommate did tell me it was near the station...) on wandering home :]

first supermarket trip

most expensive item: the rosso tw (twinings pu er tea, it's double the price of the other flavours!) but hey i didn't bring any here and you don't get twinings pu er in singapore anyway :]

un buon libro aiuta a vivere meglio
